Sunday circuit breaker brunch by W — rice plate spread of egg, sausage, vegetables. Home-cooked weekend gratitude in lockdown.

Sunday's brunch by W — blessed and thankful!

Sunday brunch at home — cooked by W (BB). End of another circuit-breaker week, and we’ve gotten to the point where weekend brunches at home feel as natural as cafe runs used to.

Today’s plate:

The rice plate format is the no-fuss weekend default for BB. Hot fluffy jasmine rice as the base, with everything else layered around it. The all-on-one-plate approach is more comfort-food than table-spread, and it makes for less washing-up after — important when neither of us wants to spend the lockdown weekend at the sink.

Sausage was the pan-fried supermarket kind — Bratwurst-style links, scored diagonally for steam release, browned slowly in their own rendered fat. Crisp casing, juicy inside. The kind of sausage that turns plain rice into a meal.

Sunny-side egg got plated on top of the rice. Crispy white edges from the high heat, runny yolk that you break onto the rice and let pool through the grains. That yellow streak through the white rice is one of the small visual wins of home brunch.

Stir-fried vegetables — quick wok of cabbage shreds, carrot strips, garlic, light soy. Crunchy texture, mild seasoning, balancing the savoury fats.

Chilli sauce on the side because every Singaporean meal needs it, even brunch.

We sat at the dining table, ate slow, talked about whatever didn’t involve work. That’s the part lockdown made better.

Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Quiet Sunday brunch — blessed and thankful indeed.
