Gyu Nami
First visit to Gyu Nami at Orchard Gateway, Somerset: the Signature Wagyu Roast Beef Don ($10+) topped with onsen egg and pepper, set up with miso soup and mochi (+$2+).
First visit to Gyu Nami at Orchard Gateway, right beside Somerset MRT. π
Gyu Nami built its name at Amoy Street Food Centre as a $10 wagyu beef bowl stall, and this Orchard Gateway outlet (down at #B2-06) brought the same signature bowl into a sit-down setting at the same wallet-friendly price. We went on a weekday dinner and the small eatery was full house, so we waited a short while before getting seats for 2.
Just a simple menu at the small eatery:

Ordered the Signature Wagyu Roast Beef Don (R: $10+), and topped up $2+ (miso soup and mochi) to make it a set.

The bowl is a mound of thinly sliced wagyu roast beef, pink and tender in the middle, fanned over rice and crowned with an onsen egg, a drizzle of cream sauce and a generous crack of black pepper. Breaking the egg lets the gooey yolk run down through the beef and rice, binding everything together. That richness is exactly why a side of clear miso soup earns its place: it resets the palate between mouthfuls of the fatty beef.
Close up shot of the wagyu roast beef.

For a $10+ wagyu bowl in the Orchard belt, itβs solid value, the kind of fuss-free Japanese rice bowl that hits the spot without a Japanese-restaurant bill. Overall not bad, would revisit to try it again.

Overall: 4 / 5. πππΌ Tender wagyu, runny onsen egg and $10+ value made it an easy Orchard lunch. Would re-visit.
