Bak chor mee ($4 each)!

Weekend brunch, hawker-style: a bowl of bak chor mee each at $4. ๐Ÿ˜‹

What we had ($8 total):

This was the fishball-leaning style of bak chor mee, and the sauce was on point. Flat mee pok noodles tossed in that tangy dark dressing of vinegar, chilli and a bit of dark soy, sharp and savoury with a little heat, the sort that keeps you going back for the next mouthful.

The toppings were generous: bouncy fishballs, slices of springy fish cake, plenty of minced pork, soft braised mushroom and a bit of lettuce for freshness, all tumbled through the noodles with chopped spring onion. The clear soup on the side, simple and savoury, is for sipping between bites to balance the tang.

Mix everything well so the noodles soak up the chilli and vinegar, and it eats brilliantly. A reliable, well-balanced bowl at $4, the kind of weekend hawker plate that never disappoints.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Springy mee pok in a sharp chilli-vinegar sauce with bouncy fishballs and minced pork. Would re-order.
