What we had:
- Chilli crab chicken: a fried chicken cutlet smothered in chilli crab sauce, over fries with salad and corn
- Salted egg chicken: a fried cutlet with a golden salted egg sauce on the side
This is the clever idea of taking Singaporeβs most iconic sauces and pairing them with crispy fried chicken instead of seafood, and it works a treat. Both came as big, golden chicken cutlets over a bed of fries with a little salad and a wheel of sweetcorn.
The chilli crab chicken was the bolder one: that famous sweet, tangy, eggy chilli-crab sauce (you usually mop up with mantou) poured over the crunchy chicken, so you get all the flavour of the national dish without cracking a single claw. The salted egg chicken was the rich, indulgent one, that creamy golden salted-egg-yolk sauce with curry leaves and a hint of chilli, served on the side so the cutlet stays crisp until you dunk it.
Two crowd-pleasing local flavours, generous portions, and at $18.90 for both on the deal, great value.
