An easygoing roast meat and drinks dinner with BB, stacking a Burpple Beyond deal with happy hour: $30.60 for the lot. ๐ป๐
What we had:
- Char siu with cucumber and chilli
- Roast pork belly (siu yuk) with cucumber and chilli
- Two bowls of dry mee kia noodles
- Two Japanese highballs (happy hour)
The two roast meats came plated in little wooden bowls. The char siu was dark and glazed, sweet-savoury with caramelised edges, topped with sliced chilli and cucumber for freshness. The roast pork belly was the crispy one, crackly skin over juicy fat and tender meat, also dressed with chilli and cucumber to cut the richness.
The mee kia (very fine egg noodles) came tossed dry with fried shallots and spring onion, a light, springy base to go with all that roast pork. Thin noodles like these soak up the seasoning oil nicely.
And the Japanese highballs were the perfect pairing: whisky and soda over a big cube of ice, cold, fizzy and clean, exactly the thing to wash down rich roast meats. Stacking the Burpple deal with happy hour drinks brought a dinner that would normally run past $50 down to $30.60, which felt like a proper win.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Sweet char siu, crackly siu yuk and springy mee kia with cold highballs. Would re-do.
