Egg fried rice with pork cutlet ($6.50) & XO fried rice with pork cutlet ($6.80)!
Two plates of wok-fried rice each crowned with a golden grilled pork cutlet: one egg fried rice, one XO fried rice. $13.30.
A hearty dinner with BB: egg fried rice with pork cutlet ($6.50) and XO fried rice with pork cutlet ($6.80). ๐
What we had ($13.30 total):
- Egg fried rice topped with a sliced grilled pork cutlet
- XO fried rice topped with a sliced grilled pork cutlet
Both plates follow the same winning formula, a bed of wok-fried rice crowned with a big, golden pork cutlet sliced into strips, so you get rice and meat in every forkful. The cutlet was the star: a thick piece of pork, well-seasoned and pan-grilled until the outside caught a savoury, peppery char while the inside stayed juicy. Cutting through to that tender middle is exactly what you want.
The two rices gave us a nice contrast. The egg fried rice was the clean, comforting one, fluffy grains coated in egg with a good smoky wok hei. The XO fried rice was the punchier, more grown-up version: the same fried rice but stirred through with XO sauce, that prized condiment of dried scallop and shrimp, so it carries a deeper, spicier, umami-rich savouriness.
Generous, satisfying and full-flavoured, with the XO plate just edging it for me. At $13.30 for two big plates, lovely value.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Smoky wok-fried rice topped with juicy grilled pork cutlet, the XO version especially moreish. Would re-order.
