Mixed veg rice ($3.20)!

A classic economic-rice lunch: mixed veg rice (cai png) for $3.20. ๐Ÿ˜‹

What we had:

Cai png is the point-and-pick economic rice that every coffee shop does, and you build your own plate from the tray. I went for one meat and two veg, the classic combination. The base was plain steamed rice, the canvas for everything else.

The fried pork belly was the treat, golden and crispy slices with that crunch on the edge and soft, savoury meat inside, the kind of thing you save the best bites of for last. Then two greens to balance it: sweet potato leaves stir-fried garlicky and soft, and cabbage with carrot, sweet and homely. A drizzle of the gravy and a dab of chilli over the rice ties it all together.

It is honest, customisable, everyday eating, and at $3.20 it is the kind of cheap, balanced plate that keeps the weekday lunch rotation going. Pick what you like, pay a few dollars, done.

Overall: 4.4 / 5. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Crispy fried pork belly with garlicky greens and cabbage over rice, a satisfying cai png for $3.20. Would re-order.
