Phad ki mao means “drunken noodles”, supposedly the dish to set you straight after a night out, and it lives up to the spicy reputation. Using Mama instant noodles is the proper street-food touch: those curly noodles take on a lovely wok char and soak up the savoury, fish-sauce-and-chilli sauce. It is loaded with fragrant holy basil, crunchy long beans and seafood, with fresh chilli giving it a real kick.
It is bold, savoury and properly spicy, the kind of plate that builds heat as you go, which is exactly where the Thai iced milk tea earns its place. Sweet, creamy and ice-cold, it cools the burn between mouthfuls and keeps you coming back for more.
At $9 for two plates and two drinks on the deal, it was unbeatable value for food this punchy.
