茶餐厅 spread: crispy pork noodles, macaroni soup & egg tart ($25.38)!
A Hong Kong cha chaan teng spread: fried noodles with crispy pork and a fried egg, macaroni soup, and a classic egg tart. $25.38.
A Hong Kong cha chaan teng (茶餐厅) meal with BB, ordering across the menu the way you should at a HK cafe: $25.38 for the spread. 😋
What we had:
- Fried noodles topped with crispy pork and a runny fried egg
- Macaroni soup with lettuce and a wonton
- A classic egg tart to finish
The fried noodles were the highlight: a tangle of springy egg noodles fried until a little crisp at the edges, piled with crunchy pieces of pork and crowned with a sunny fried egg. Break the yolk over the noodles and it coats every strand, savoury and rich. Proper cha chaan teng comfort.
The macaroni soup was the gentle one, the homely HK breakfast staple: little pasta elbows in a clear, light broth with crisp lettuce and a plump wonton, the sort of soothing bowl you sip alongside something heavier.
And you cannot do a cha chaan teng without the egg tart: a flaky pastry shell holding a smooth, wobbly egg custard, just sweet enough, eaten warm. It is the perfect little full-stop to the meal.
A fun, mix-and-match HK spread that gave us the salty, the soupy and the sweet in one sitting.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Crispy-pork noodles, soothing macaroni soup and a classic egg tart, proper HK cafe comfort. Would re-visit.
