Nasi lemak (1 for 1: $9.30++) & White coffee ($2.60++)!
Sunday OldTown — nasi lemak 1-for-1 $9.30 + white coffee $2.60. Malaysian heritage cafe-restaurant.
Malaysian-style breakfast at Old Town White Coffee. Nasi lemak (1-for-1, $9.30++) + white coffee ($2.60++). 😋☕
Old Town White Coffee is the Malaysian kopitiam chain built around Ipoh-style white coffee, with outlets across Singapore’s malls and heartlands. The appeal is reliable, air-conditioned comfort food, and a 1-for-1 nasi lemak deal made it an easy weekend breakfast call.
What we had:
- A nasi lemak plate: fragrant coconut rice with sambal chilli, fried chicken, crispy ikan bilis and peanuts, sliced cucumber and an egg.
- A white coffee.
Ipoh white coffee is the thing to order here. Unlike the dark, robust local kopi (where the beans are roasted with sugar to a near-black char), white coffee beans are roasted with margarine and no sugar, giving a lighter, golden-brown brew that’s smoother and less bitter, then served sweet with condensed milk. It’s mellow and comforting, and pairs nicely with the spicy-savoury nasi lemak.
The nasi lemak was a solid rendition: the coconut rice fragrant, the sambal sweet-spicy, and the fried chicken a hearty protein. It’s not trying to out-do a heritage hawker plate, but it’s consistent and satisfying. With the 1-for-1 bringing the plate to an effective $9.30, it was good value for a fuss-free, sit-down breakfast.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Comforting nasi lemak and a smooth, mellow Ipoh white coffee, reliable and good value on the 1-for-1. Would re-do.
