Taiwanese dinner with BB at Eat 3 Bowls (呷三碗): a lu rou fan set ($8) and the 3-bowl combo ($12). 😋
Eat 3 Bowls is the homely Taiwanese eatery whose whole concept is in the name, you build a meal out of small bowls, the way you’d graze at a Taiwan night market or rice shop.
What was on the table ($20):
- 卤肉饭 (lu rou fan) set: the star, fragrant braised minced pork belly over rice. The pork is slow-cooked in soy, Shaoxing wine, five-spice and rock sugar until it turns sticky, glossy and meltingly tender, then ladled over rice so the braising liquid soaks into every grain. Comfort food at its finest, served as a set with sides and soup.
- 3-bowl combo: a pick-your-own spread of small Taiwanese dishes and sides (vegetables, tofu, egg and the like), letting you taste a bit of everything.
The lu rou fan was exactly what you want it to be, that deeply savoury-sweet braised pork is the heart of Taiwanese home cooking, and the small-bowl format made the meal feel varied and generous rather than just one big plate. A cosy, satisfying taste of Taiwan.
Overall: 4.7 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Sticky, savoury lu rou fan and a fun spread of small Taiwanese bowls, comforting and homely. Would re-visit.
