There is something about finally wanting your favourite drink again that tells you you’re on the mend, and this was exactly that moment. PlayMade is known for its handmade pearls, and the chrysanthemum pearls here were the draw: chewy, springy tapioca made with chrysanthemum, sitting at the bottom of the cup.
The drink itself was a gentle, soothing one rather than a sugar bomb. Chrysanthemum tea has that mild, floral-honey note (and a “cooling” reputation in Chinese tradition), and blended with milk it turned soft, creamy and mellow, easy on a body still recovering. Chasing the springy pearls up the straw between sips made it feel like a proper treat.
After two weeks off everything nice, this hit the spot perfectly: comforting, lightly floral and not too heavy. The taste of feeling human again, basically.
