Nothing beats a favourite home-cooked dish: a big bowl of handmade flat-dough noodle soup at the family table. ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ˜‹

What we had:

This is the kind of home cooking no restaurant can match. The noodles are made by hand, pressed and torn into wide, irregular flat pieces and dropped straight into the soup, so they come out soft and slippery with that lovely uneven, slightly chewy bite. Bigger and more rustic than the hawker version, the way home cooks do it.

The broth was clean and savoury, the kind simmered with care, with a good scatter of fried shallots on top for fragrance. Through it were tender slices of pork and a handful of leafy greens, simple, honest toppings that let the noodles and soup shine.

It is comfort food in the truest sense, the dish you grow up with and keep coming back for. The familiarity, the texture of hand-made noodles, the broth done just so, these are the things that make home cooking the favourite. I could eat this every weekend and never tire of it.
