A cosy Japanese dinner with BB, made good value by Burpple Beyond 1-for-1: a udon + tempura + drink set for an effective $15.20. π
What we had:
- Beef udon: thick udon in a savoury dashi broth with sliced beef, wakame seaweed, an onsen egg and a heap of tenkasu (crunchy tempura bits)
- A side of tempura: ebi (prawn), tamago and a korokke
- Heaven and Earth passionfruit tea to drink
The beef udon was proper comfort food. The noodles were thick, chewy and slippery, sitting in a clean, soy-dashi broth that was gentle and warming, with tender slices of beef and ribbons of wakame. Breaking the onsen egg so the soft yolk swirls into the soup makes it richer, and the tenkasu scattered on top add little bursts of crunch and toasty flavour until they soften into the broth.
The tempura on the side gave it crunch and variety: a crisp prawn, a fluffy slice of tamago and a golden korokke, all light and not greasy. The cold passionfruit tea was a sweet, tangy refresher alongside.
A complete, satisfying set, and at $15.20 on the deal, very fair for the lot.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. πππΌ Chewy beef udon with a runny egg and crisp tempura, comforting and great value. Would re-do.
