Saturday dinner with BB — Tamoya udon + tempura + drink Burpple Beyond set at $16.48. The full upgraded set with the tempura side included, slightly more than the lunch-only udon+drink set we usually do.

The dinner set is the slightly fancier version of the standard Tamoya Burpple Beyond combo. Same sanuki-style udon noodles and dashi broth as the lunch sets, but with tempura included rather than as a counter-pick add-on. The $1.93 extra ($14.55 → $16.48) is for the tempura selection.
The udon bowl was the Tamoya standard. Thick, square-cut, hand-cut sanuki udon noodles in a clear dashi broth with kombu-bonito-mirin depth. The chew is the distinguishing factor — properly elastic, slightly bouncy, holds up beautifully against the broth without going gummy.
Tempura selection in the dinner set was usually 2-3 pieces — a prawn tempura (the most generous piece), a sweet potato tempura (the value upgrade), and sometimes a vegetable tempura piece (mushroom or pumpkin depending on availability).
The prawn tempura was the star. Properly battered in airy panko-tempura batter, deep-fried to that golden translucent crisp, with the prawn inside still snappy. The tempura sauce (tentsuyu — soy-mirin-dashi mix with grated daikon) came in a small bowl on the side for dipping.
Sweet potato tempura was the carb-and-sweet element. Slices of orange-fleshed sweet potato in the same batter, slightly thicker cut so the interior went tender and sweet during the fry.
Drink was included — cold green tea, refillable.
At $16.48 with tempura and drink via Burpple Beyond, this is fair Japanese dinner pricing. Full price would’ve been closer to $22-24.
The dinner set is the version we order when we’re hungry enough to want the tempura but not hungry enough to commit to a full ramen elsewhere.
