Thursday's lunch!
Thursday September phase-2 home lunch — rice, eggs, vegetables. Weekday rotation continuing through autumn.
Thursday lunch at home with BB — back to the weekday rotation after Wednesday’s Burpple Beyond sit-down lunch. The home kitchen routine continued to win on the cost-time-comfort math.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg (sunny-side)
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein
- Chilli sauce on the side
The Thursday lunch sits in the late-week steady rhythm. By Thursday the work week’s momentum is built, the weekend is in sight, and the cooking energy is in autopilot mode.
Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.
Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk.
Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of pan-fried sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit in its rendered fat.
Chilli sauce on the side as always.
We sat at the kitchen counter, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. The work-from-home Thursday lunch break had a different rhythm from the pre-pandemic office canteen — slower, less rushed, with proper sit-down eating.
The cost comparison continues to favour the home lunch. Wednesday’s Burpple Beyond lunch was $32++ for two; Thursday’s home lunch was $4 in groceries for two. The restaurant lunch had its place as the mid-week treat; the home lunch was the day-to-day baseline.
Lockdown taught us when to splurge and when to keep it simple. The home weekday lunch sits firmly on the “keep it simple” side of that decision.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Thursday home lunch — keeping the routine.
