Tuesday evening Japanese sweets — melon waffle cone + minion potatoes + yuzu cream cheese pie. Multi-spot dessert run.
Tuesday evening Japanese sweets run with BB — melon waffle cone + minion potatoes + yuzu cream cheese pie. Multi-spot dessert pickup after the Santouka ramen lunch earlier in the day.
We ordered (across different shops):
- Melon waffle cone (Japanese melon-flavoured ice cream in a waffle cone)
- Minion potatoes (themed sweet potato pastries)
- Yuzu cream cheese pie
The melon waffle cone was the centrepiece. Japanese melon (musk melon) is the premium fruit with the distinctively perfumed, almost honeyed flavour. Ice cream made with proper melon flavour is rare in Singapore because the cost of real melon is high — most “melon” ice cream uses artificial flavouring.
This cone had the proper version. Pale green colour from the melon juice infusion, with the right perfume coming off the ice cream. The melon flavour was authentic — slight tropical-sweet finish with the faint cucumber-leaning note that real musk melon has. Held in a crisp waffle cone with a slight buttery sweetness.
Minion potatoes were the themed bake — sweet potato pastries shaped to resemble the Minions characters with little fondant eyes and goggles. Cute presentation, with proper sweet potato filling inside the pastry shell. The kind of dessert that’s half-food, half-photo-opportunity.
Yuzu cream cheese pie was the substantial dessert. Yuzu (the Japanese citrus fruit) lends its distinctive citrus-floral flavour to the cream cheese filling, set in a buttery shortcrust pastry shell. Slightly tart, slightly sweet, with the unmistakable yuzu perfume.
The combination of three sweets across the dessert spectrum — frozen (melon cone), pastry (minion potato), pie (yuzu cream cheese) — covered the categories. We didn’t eat them all at once but spread the dessert pickup across the evening.
Multi-spot dessert pickup is the format that works post-lockdown — restaurants reopen, niche shops are findable on delivery apps, and you can stack a small dessert tour into one evening of pickups.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Strong Japanese sweets trio — would do again.
