Last night's GrabFood dinner!
Thursday throwback GrabFood dinner — Wednesday evening delivery spread. Mid-week delivery rotation.
Thursday morning throwback to last night’s GrabFood dinner — Wednesday evening delivery spread. The mid-week GrabFood routine that continued to be one of the convenient phase-2 weekday dinner options.
We ordered (GrabFood Wednesday dinner):
- Mains (one for each of us)
- Side dish
- Drinks
The mid-week GrabFood dinner is the convenience play. You’ve worked through the day, the home cooking energy has run low, and the delivery app delivers a hot meal to the door for $20-30. The math against home cooking ($4-5 in groceries) doesn’t work, but the energy math sometimes wins.
The mains were the substantial dishes. Each came as a complete one-bowl or one-plate meal — usually a noodle bowl, a rice plate, or a Western-style entree. Properly sealed for delivery, hot when it arrived (the rider’s insulated bag does its job for the 25-minute window).
Side dish was a smaller portion of vegetables or a small salad — the greens-and-fresh component that the mains usually don’t include enough of.
Drinks were the standard sealed-cup beverages.
The Wednesday-night GrabFood rotation had become one of the steady weekly patterns. Phase 2 hadn’t significantly changed our delivery behaviour — the apps were just as convenient now as they’d been during circuit breaker, and the mid-week energy slump was just as real.
Cost-wise, we’d come to accept that GrabFood Wednesday dinner was a $25-30 expense that we paid for the convenience rather than the food quality. The home alternative was usually better food at a fraction of the cost; the GrabFood version was the time-and-energy purchase rather than the food purchase.
Some patterns settle into their place. The mid-week GrabFood Wednesday dinner was one of those.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable mid-week GrabFood dinner — would continue the pattern.
