Cafe stop at Jalan Besar. Chye Seng Huat Hardware white cold brew, 2 for $12 promo. πππΌ
What was in hand:
- Two amber glass bottles of Cold Brew White: the Throwback Blend, label promising dark chocolate, hazelnut and heavy body, the Chye Seng Huat Hardware (εζεδΊι) x Bootstrap Singapore branding
Chye Seng Huat Hardware is the Jalan Besar coffee landmark: a 1920s art deco former hardware store on Tyrwhitt Road, converted by PPP Coffee (formerly Papa Palheta) into the cafe that basically anchored the whole neighbourhoodβs coffee scene. The name and the metal-grille aesthetic keep the hardware-shop history; the horseshoe coffee bar inside is one of the most photographed counters in Singapore.
White cold brew is cold brewβs milk evolution: the slow cold extraction pulls chocolate and nut notes with barely any acidity, then milk rounds it into something dangerously drinkable. The Throwback Blend leans exactly where the label says: dark chocolate first, hazelnut behind it, heavy enough body that it drinks like a dessert without sugar pile-on.
2 for $12 against the usual $7-$8 a bottle is the right excuse to double up. One for now, one for the fridge, in theory. Both were gone by evening.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. πππΌ The dark-chocolate body was the standout. CSHH bottled cold brew remains the Jalan Besar takeaway move.
