Minced meat you mian, done dry, from EAT at City Square Mall, $5.30. ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ˜‹

What we had ($5.30):

EAT is at #B2-K5 in City Square Mall, 180 Kitchener Road, which sits right on top of Farrer Park MRT. Handy if you are in the Little India or Jalan Besar stretch and want something quick that is not a full sit-down meal.

You mian are the thin springy egg noodles, and ordering them dry with minced meat turns the bowl into something much closer to a bak chor mee than a ban mian, toppings and all.

The you mian came fine and curly, tossed in a savoury dark sauce and well separated rather than clumped together. Being a lighter noodle than a hand-cut ban mian, they carry more sauce per strand and eat faster, so this is the order when you do not want to sit with a heavy bowl.

The toppings are what earn it the bak chor mee comparison. Sliced braised shiitake mushrooms went on top, dark and glossy and soaked through with braising liquid. Alongside them, slices of lean pork, a scattering of minced pork, and one springy white fishball.

The two fried wonton skins are the bit I would fight over. Just the wrappers, no filling, fried until they blistered into crisp golden sheets. Snap them over the noodles so they act like crackers, or eat them whole before the sauce softens them.

Shredded lettuce on top keeps it from being all brown, and a bowl of clear soup comes on the side. Tip some in if the toss tightens up.

Five thirty in a mall, with mushrooms and wontons on it, is decent value for the area.

Overall: 4.1 / 5. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Springy thin noodles, good braised mushrooms and crisp wonton skins. Would order again.
