Taiwanese braised pork rice (lu rou fan) set meal ($5.50)!
Taiwanese lu rou fan (滷肉飯) — minced braised pork on rice with braised egg, blanched spinach and preserved mustard greens. $5.50.
Quick Taiwanese lunch — lu rou fan (滷肉飯, braised pork rice) set meal, $5.50. Comfort in a bowl. 😋
What was in the bowl ($5.50):
- A bed of fluffy white rice at the base.
- A generous pile of minced braised pork (lu rou / 滷肉) — glossy soya-braised pork bits with little chunks of fat that melt as you eat. The headline.
- A braised egg (lu dan / 滷蛋) halved at the top — yolk still slightly soft, properly soaked through with five-spice and soya.
- A pile of blanched spinach for the green.
- A pile of preserved mustard greens (suan cai / 酸菜) — sour-salty, the perfect cut against the rich pork.
Mixed everything together — the suan cai sour-salty + the pork rich-fatty = TW lunch goals.
Total: $5.50. Casual TW set pricing.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Lu rou had proper fat-to-meat ratio, suan cai was punchy and balanced the dish, braised egg was on point. Classic TW comfort done well. 😍👍🏼
