Chilli pan mee at a KL-style noodle spot ($7.80)!
KL-style chilli pan mee — flat noodles with crispy chilli flakes, minced pork, fried ikan bilis, onsen egg and a side bowl of soup. $7.80.
Lunch run for KL-style chilli pan mee — the dry noodles with the signature crispy chilli flakes. $7.80. 😋
What was in the black bowl ($7.80):
- A nest of flat hand-pulled yellow pan mee noodles at the base.
- A generous mound of crispy ground sambal chilli flakes — that famous KL fragrance, fiery, fragrant, with bits of dried prawns ground in.
- A pile of savoury minced pork stir-fried with garlic and soya.
- A handful of crispy fried ikan bilis — that salty crunch top note.
- A soft poached / onsen egg with the yolk just about to break.
- A scatter of chopped scallions for the aromatic finish.
- A side bowl of clear soup with sweet potato leaves for the alternating sips.
Mixed everything together — the egg yolk + sambal + minced pork combo made the noodles silky, spicy and savoury in one swirl.
Total: $7.80. KL-style restaurant pricing.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Crispy chilli flakes were the headline — fragrant and properly spicy. The runny yolk was perfectly timed. Will come back for the spice. 😍👍🏼
