Signature bak chor mee soup at a hawker stall ($5)!
Bak chor mee soup version at a hawker — mee kia in clear peppery broth, generous minced pork, pork balls and yellow-skin pork dumplings. $5.
Office lunch — went for the soup version of bak chor mee at a hawker stall, $5. Sometimes the soup version is the right call. 😋
What was in the orange bowl ($5):
- A nest of yellow mee kia (thin egg noodles) in a clear, peppery broth.
- A generous mound of minced pork distributed in two clumps around the bowl.
- Bouncy pork balls — three of them, well-seasoned.
- Two large handmade dumplings with yellow-tinted skin and a pork filling visible through the wrapper.
- A scatter of chopped scallions for the aromatic finish.
Different from the dry version — the soup carries the pork umami through every spoonful, and the peppery base wakes up the palate. Dumplings were the surprise standout — properly thin skin, juicy pork filling.
Total: $5. Hawker pricing for the works.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Soup was clean, pork balls had proper bounce, and the dumplings made it feel premium. Solid soup bak chor mee — sometimes the wet version wins. 😍👍🏼
