酿豆腐 (yong tau foo) bee hoon soup at Bai Nian (百年) ($5.90)!
YTF bee hoon soup at Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu (百年酿豆腐) — bee hoon in clear broth with fried tau pok, ngoh hiang, fishcake, fish paste and minced pork. $5.90.
Mid-week lunch — went to 百年酿豆腐 (Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu) for their YTF bee hoon soup. $5.90. The chain that does proper customisable YTF. 😋
What was in the bowl ($5.90):
- A nest of thin white bee hoon sitting in a clear, light brown broth — properly simmered with ikan bilis and soya bean, slightly sweet without being heavy.
- A piece of fried tau pok (golden brown, with that absorbent inside).
- Crispy ngoh hiang (五香) roll — a piece of beancurd-wrapped seasoned pork roll, fried crispy.
- A piece of fried fishcake — crispy edges, soft inside.
- Pieces of fish paste / fish balls with proper bounce.
- A scoop of minced pork at the side.
- A scatter of chopped scallions for the aromatic finish.
- A side dish of sweet sauce + dark chilli sauce divided into two — the classic YTF dipping combo.
Dipped each piece into the sauce as I ate, alternated with sips of broth. Bai Nian-style.
Total: $5.90. Chain pricing for a properly varied YTF set.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Variety of fried items was the win — every piece had a different texture. Broth had depth without being too salty. Reliable chain choice. 😍👍🏼
