Traditional mee hoon kueh at a hawker stall ($4)!
Old-school hand-torn mee hoon kueh — flour sheets in clear ikan bilis broth, minced pork, scrambled egg, sweet potato leaves and fried dried fish. $4.
Light comfort lunch — traditional mee hoon kueh at a hawker stall, $4. Hand-torn flour sheets, the heritage way. 😋
What was in the bowl ($4):
- A generous serving of hand-torn mee hoon kueh — irregular flat pieces of flour dough, varying thickness, with that signature uneven, rustic look.
- A clear, light ikan bilis (anchovy) broth — properly cooked down, slightly cloudy, with deep umami.
- A soft minced pork ball sitting at the edge, hand-formed look to it.
- A pile of fresh sweet potato leaves — wilted into the soup, earthy and tender.
- A handful of crispy fried ikan bilis scattered on top for the salty crunch.
- Wisps of scrambled egg running through the broth.
The flour sheets had different thicknesses — some thin and silky, some thick with bite. That’s how you know it’s properly hand-torn.
Total: $4. Hawker heritage pricing.
Overall: 4.1 / 5. Broth had real ikan bilis depth, the texture mix of flour pieces was authentic. Reminds me of grandma’s kitchen. Will return. 😍👍🏼
