Western egg tart with Starbucks coffee ($1.60)!
Office tea-break treat — a Western-style butter shortcrust egg tart with bright yellow custard, paired with a Starbucks coffee. $1.60 tart.
Office tea break — a Western-style egg tart + a Starbucks coffee to go. $1.60 for the tart. Simple afternoon pick-me-up. 😋
What was on the desk ($1.60 + coffee):
- A Western-style egg tart — buttery, slightly crumbly shortcrust pastry shell holding a bright yellow egg custard filling, baked until just barely set on top with a slight wobble in the centre. Smooth, eggy, lightly sweet.
- A tall Starbucks cup of coffee in the iconic black “Peace Love Coffee” sleeve — the perfect bitter chaser to the sweet tart.
Western-style egg tarts (shortcrust + smooth custard) vs Cantonese-style (puff pastry + slightly cracked custard top) — both delicious in different ways, and this Western version had that signature buttery base that holds its shape better.
Total: $1.60 for the tart (Starbucks separately).
Overall: 4 / 5. Custard was smooth and not over-sweet, pastry was buttery without being too crumbly. Solid teatime pairing. Would buy two next time. 😍👍🏼
