Duck rice set at South Buona Vista Braised Duck ($4)!
The legendary Teochew braised duck on yam rice at South Buona Vista Braised Duck (99弯卤鸭) — with braised tau pok, peanuts, half egg and cucumber. $4 well spent.
Lunch with a mission: South Buona Vista Braised Duck (99弯卤鸭) — the legendary Teochew braised duck stall tucked at the foot of those 99 curvy bends near Kent Ridge. Mr Ang has been running this for over 50 years. 😍
Got the duck rice set ($4):
- Generous slices of tender braised duck sitting on a mound of fragrant yam rice, swimming in the lor sauce. The yam rice is non-negotiable — it has that distinct sesame-dried-shrimp aroma you can’t get from white.
- Sides of braised tau pok, braised peanuts, a half braised egg with that dark caramel ring, and a few slices of cucumber to cut the richness.
- Coriander scattered for fragrance.
The lor sauce was deep and properly braised — fragrant five-spice, sweet-savoury, the kind you’d want to bottle. Duck was tender enough to fall apart with the spoon.
For $4, this is robbery-level value.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. 50+ years of know-how on a plate. We get why this stall has its own cult following. 😋👍🏼
