Mala shrimp spaghetti + Chicken chop laksa spaghetti ($7.50 + $8.50)!
Asian-Italian fusion takeaway — mala shrimp spaghetti and chicken chop laksa spaghetti in paper bowls. $7.50 + $8.50.
WFH lunch with BB — went for Asian-Italian fusion spaghetti: mala shrimp + chicken chop laksa. $7.50 + $8.50. 😋
What was in the bowls ($16 total):
- Mala shrimp spaghetti ($7.50) — al dente spaghetti tossed in fragrant mala chilli oil with bits of dried chilli and Sichuan peppercorn, packed with prawns, mushroom slices, broccoli florets and chopped vegetables. Numbing, spicy, fusion-y.
- Chicken chop laksa spaghetti ($8.50) — spaghetti in a thick laksa-coconut sauce topped with slices of grilled chicken chop with a sambal-style dusting. The Asian curry sauce on pasta worked surprisingly well.
Fusion done well — mala worked beautifully with spaghetti (the al dente texture holds up to the chilli oil). The laksa pasta was the bolder cross-cuisine pick.
Total: $16 for both.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Mala shrimp was the standout — proper numbing kick, prawns were fresh. Laksa spaghetti was creative and tasty if unusual. Fusion that actually works. 😍👍🏼
