Wednesday dinner with BB at City Square Mall, Farrer Park. The Taiwanese spot up there runs a Burpple Beyond deal that bundles a main, a side and a drink — and it stretches the dinner budget nicely on a weeknight.
We ordered:
- 卤肉饭 (Lu rou fan — braised pork rice)
- 牛肉面 (Niu rou mian — beef noodles)
- Fresh orange juice
Total bill: $20.50 for the lot via Burpple Beyond.
Lu rou fan was the classic — short-grain rice topped with a deep, sweet-soy braised pork mince, half a tea egg, pickled veg on the side. Spoon-it-fast comfort food.
Niu rou mian leaned the clear-broth Taiwanese style. Brisket stewed soft, broth had real beef-bone flavour, noodles cooked to the right chew. Lighter than the spicy red-broth Sichuan version, easier weeknight call.
Fresh OJ was a proper squeezed-on-the-spot pour rather than from concentrate — surprisingly worth ordering instead of defaulting to tea.
At $20.50 for two mains and a juice in a city mall, this is a strong Burpple Beyond stack. The food isn’t transcendent but it’s reliably executed, and the discount turns it into a value play.
