卤肉面 ($10.90++) & 牛肉面 ($11.90++)!
Sunday Taiwanese lunch at Kallang Stadium — braised pork noodles + beef noodles, $10.90++ and $11.90++. Mall-Taiwanese done well enough to revisit.
Sunday lunch with BB at one of the Taiwanese chains in the Kallang Stadium mall. Easy stop if you’re around the sports hub — air-con, no queue at off-peak, and a menu that doesn’t try to do too much.
We ordered:
- 卤肉面 (Lu rou mian — braised pork noodles) — $10.90++
- 牛肉面 (Niu rou mian — beef noodles) — $11.90++
The 卤肉面 came as a generous bowl of springy alkaline noodles topped with finely chopped braised pork and the dark, sweet-soy braising sauce that’s pretty much the national dish of Taiwan. Pickled mustard greens on top for crunch and acid. Comfort-food shape, mall-Taiwanese execution, decent.
The 牛肉面 leaned the Taiwanese clear-broth variant rather than the spicy red-broth Sichuan-style. Brisket chunks were stewed soft, beef flavour was solid even if the broth could’ve been more concentrated. A handful of greens on top, noodles cooked to chew.
Pricing is mall-tier — about double what a hawker would charge — but for the convenience of sit-down air-con on a Sunday with BB, it works. We weren’t blown away but we weren’t underwhelmed either.
Overall: 4.1 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Taiwanese mall stop — would revisit when in the area.
