Tuesday Phad Thai at an Aljunied Thai stall ($5.50)!
A proper plate of Phad Thai with prawns, tofu, beansprouts, egg and chives — with crushed peanuts, chilli flakes and lime to dress it. Aljunied hawker pricing at $5.50.
Weekday cravings for Thai brought me to a small Thai food stall in Aljunied — and they delivered a properly legit plate of phad thai. 😋
What was on the plate ($5.50):
- A generous tangle of thin rice noodles, stir-fried tamarind-style with that signature sweet-sour-savoury balance
- Plump prawns, scrambled bits of egg, cubes of orange-stained firm tofu, plenty of fresh beansprouts and lots of garlic chives
- Sides on the rim: a heap of crushed roasted peanuts for that nutty crunch, a generous pile of dried chilli flakes for heat, and a fat calamansi lime wedge to squeeze over
Squeeze the lime, mix in everything, attack the noodles. The way it should be.
Total: $5.50. For a properly seasoned, full-flavoured phad thai, very hard to beat.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. The tamarind sweetness was on point, the prawns plump, and the texture nailed — slightly chewy noodles, not mushy. Lunch sorted. 😍👍🏼
