Quick weekday wanton mee fix from an old-school hawker stall in Aljunied. $4. Need I say more? 😋
What’s on the plate:
- A neat nest of springy yellow noodles, tossed in that signature dark sweet-savoury wanton mee sauce. A spoon of chilli on the side just visible.
- Slices of char siew — slightly charred at the edges, sweet caramelisation showing.
- One golden fried wanton balanced on top, looking like a little crispy fan.
- A handful of blanched greens (choy sum) for the green.
- A side bowl of soup with floating wanton and greens — clear, fragrant, slightly peppery.
For $4, this is exactly the kind of hawker meal that reminds you why we’ll never run out of wanton mee.
Overall: 4 / 5. Noodles QQ, char siew tender, fried wanton stayed crispy throughout. Honest, no-fuss, value-for-money. Will be back. 😍👍🏼
