杂菜饭 (cai png) at a Chinatown hawker ($3.50)!
Healthier cai png (杂菜饭) with brown rice — sweet and sour pork, stir-fried long beans, fried beancurd cubes at a Chinatown hawker. $3.50.
Healthier-conscience lunch — went for 杂菜饭 (cai png) with brown rice at a Chinatown hawker. $3.50. 😋
What was on the plate ($3.50):
- A bed of brown / red rice mix — nuttier, slightly chewier than white rice.
- A pile of sweet and sour pork — crispy battered pork chunks in that signature glossy red-orange sauce. (Cheat dish, always.)
- A scoop of stir-fried long beans with bits of pork and chilli — crunchy, well-seasoned.
- Pieces of stewed fried beancurd cubes with carrot strips and onions in a savoury gravy.
Three dishes + brown rice for $3.50 — Chinatown hawker pricing magic.
Total: $3.50.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Solid balance — sweet and sour pork had proper crunch, long beans were properly cooked, beancurd cubes soaked up the gravy. Brown rice + 3 dishes is the work-lunch sweet spot. 😍👍🏼
