Har cheong gai rice bowl + battered enoki at a hawker stall ($6 + $3)!
Modern hawker — har cheong gai (prawn paste chicken) rice bowl with onsen egg and cucumber, plus a side basket of battered crispy enoki mushrooms. $6 + $3.
Lunch return to the har cheong gai rice bowl stall — this time added the battered enoki side. $6 + $3. 😋
What was on the table ($9 total):
- The har cheong gai rice bowl ($6) — rice topped with prawn paste chicken chunks drizzled with sweet chilli sauce, a soft-poached onsen egg with runny yolk, and a bed of shredded cucumber for the cool crunch. In the same patterned ceramic bowl.
- A side basket of battered enoki mushrooms ($3) — long thin enoki strands deep-fried in a light tempura batter until shatteringly crispy. Salty, addictive, dangerous to share.
Cracked the yolk, mixed it into the chilli and chicken. Munched the enoki on the side as I worked through the bowl — the crispy strands provided non-stop texture.
Total: $9 for both.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. Har cheong gai bowl is reliable and adding the battered enoki upgraded it to a proper meal-and-snack combo. The enoki was the secret weapon. 😍👍🏼
