Super Shiok Basmati Nasi Lemak ($3.50)!
Super Shiok Basmati Nasi Lemak — fragrant basmati coconut rice with achar, omelette, sambal chilli, fried ikan bilis and a hefty fried chicken drumstick. $3.50.
Lunch find — Super Shiok Basmati Nasi Lemak. Basmati instead of the usual short-grain coconut rice = different vibe. $3.50. 😋
What was on the plate ($3.50):
- A bed of basmati coconut rice — long-grain, separate, fragrant with pandan and coconut milk. Lighter than typical nasi lemak rice.
- A spoonful of dark red sambal chilli — fragrant from belacan, with proper spice level.
- A bright yellow achar (pickled vegetables) — tangy, slightly sweet, with cabbage and carrot strips visible.
- A savoury Indian-style omelette with bits of onion and chilli — flat, slightly crispy edges.
- A huge fried chicken drumstick — deep golden brown, crispy skin, juicy meat inside.
- A scattering of fried ikan bilis for the salty crunch top notes.
The basmati was the surprise — fragrant coconut rice with a long-grain texture is a new experience for nasi lemak.
Total: $3.50. Hawker pricing.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Drumstick was the headline — properly crispy. Basmati version had a different appeal; might miss the classic clumpy rice for sambal-mixing but worth the variety. 😍👍🏼
