Favourite 酿豆腐 (YTF) in Chinatown ($4.50)!
Favourite yong tau foo (酿豆腐) at a Chinatown hawker — clear broth with ngoh hiang, fried tau pok, fish balls and beancurd skin rolls. $4.50.
Quick stop at my favourite YTF stall in Chinatown — $4.50 for the regular bowl. The kind of YTF that becomes your office-day staple. 😋
What was in the orange bowl ($4.50):
- A clear, light-brown YTF broth — proper depth from simmered ikan bilis and soya beans, no MSG cloying.
- A piece of fried ngoh hiang roll — savoury minced pork wrapped in beancurd skin, crispy outside.
- A piece of fried tau pok — golden brown, soaks up the broth.
- A piece of fried beancurd skin roll — extra crispy fan-shape on the edge.
- White fish balls with proper bounce.
- A scatter of chopped chives / scallions for the aromatic finish.
- A side dish of red chilli sauce for the dipping.
Different mix of fried items today (no green chilli or okra), but the broth is what keeps me coming back.
Total: $4.50. Hawker pricing.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. This stall is in my regular rotation for a reason — broth is the standout, every piece soaks it up beautifully. My favourite for a reason. 😍👍🏼
