Cold brew ($6) & Java chip ($8.10)!

A simple afternoon coffee run with BB at Starbucks: a cold brew ($6) and a Java Chip Frappuccino ($8.10). β˜•πŸ˜‹

What we had ($14.10 total):

We covered both ends of the cold-coffee spectrum here. The cold brew was the purist’s choice: coffee steeped slowly in cold water for hours, which gives it a smooth, mellow, low-acid character. It drinks clean and refreshing, just coffee and ice, no milk or sugar getting in the way, the one to order when you actually want to taste the coffee.

The Java Chip Frappuccino was the indulgent treat. Coffee blended with ice and milk into a thick, slushy frappe, with chocolate chips and chocolate sauce running through it, so it eats more like a cold dessert than a drink. Sweet, chocolatey and cooling, it is the fun, no-guilt-rules option for a hot day.

One clean and grown-up, one rich and dessert-like, they made a nice pair to share. Starbucks is never the most adventurous stop, but it is reliable and consistent, and on a warm afternoon these two cold cups did exactly what we wanted.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. πŸ˜‹πŸ‘πŸΌ A smooth, clean cold brew and an indulgent chocolatey Java Chip, a good cold-coffee duo. Would re-order.
