Menya Musashi (Westgate): tsukemen lunch set ($12.90++)!

Tsukemen lunch at Menya Musashi, the Westgate outlet in Jurong East. Lunch set (tsukemen + drink + 1 side), $12.90++. 😋

Menya Musashi (麺屋武蔵) is the Tokyo ramen chain named after the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi (the samurai brushstroke logo is right there on the bowl). Its Westgate branch (#02-07) runs value lunch sets from $12.90 that include a drink and a side, and it’s known for letting you upsize the tsukemen noodles for free, up to 5x.

What was on the tray ($12.90++):

Tsukemen (つけ麺) is the “dipping noodle” style: instead of swimming in soup, the noodles come on their own and you dunk each mouthful into a small bowl of intense, thickened broth. Because the soup isn’t diluting a whole bowl, it’s brewed far more concentrated, here a deep pork-bone-and-fish (gyokai tonkotsu) broth, so each dip coats the noodles in a punchy hit of umami. The thick, chewy noodles are made for it, holding the sauce well, while the runny-yolked ajitama and tender chashu round out the plate.

At $12.90++ for the noodles plus a drink and side (with that free upsize on offer), it’s a genuinely filling, great-value Japanese lunch in the west, no wonder it’s a Jurong East staple.

Overall: 4.7 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Thick chewy noodles in a rich, concentrated dipping broth, with a jammy ajitama, all at a wallet-friendly set price. Would re-visit.
