If you grew up here, Ovaltine is pure nostalgia, that malted chocolate drink so many of us had warm before bed, so having it as a soft serve is an instant smile. The swirl was a deep cocoa-brown, smooth and creamy, with that distinctive Ovaltine flavour coming through: chocolatey, yes, but with a toasty, malty edge that sets it apart from plain chocolate ice cream. It is rich without being too sweet.
The dark chocolate cone was a nice touch, crisp and lightly cocoa-flavoured so it matched the soft serve rather than fighting it. Eating it before it melted in the heat was the only challenge, and a happy one.
It is a simple cone, but that malty Ovaltine flavour makes it feel special and a little different from the usual. The kind of treat that tastes like a memory.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Creamy, malty Ovaltine soft serve in a crisp chocolate cone, nostalgic and moreish. Would re-order.
