A casual Thai lunch with BB: pineapple fried rice ($6) and basil minced pork rice ($6). ๐
What we shared ($12 total):
- Pineapple fried rice ($6): curry-yellow fried rice with pineapple chunks, topped with a mound of pork floss
- Basil minced pork rice ($6): pad krapow over rice with a runny fried egg on the side
The pineapple fried rice was the sweet-savoury one. Jasmine rice tossed with curry powder for that golden colour, with juicy pineapple cutting through, and the pork floss on top adding a fluffy, savoury-sweet finish. It is the milder, more crowd-pleasing dish of the two.
The basil pork was the one with a kick, and the better order in my book. Minced pork stir-fried hard with Thai holy basil, garlic and a serious amount of fresh chilli, seasoned savoury with fish sauce, so it comes out fragrant and properly spicy. You break the fried egg over the rice, let the runny yolk fold into the meat, and every spoonful gets that little hit of heat balanced by basil. Pad krapow with a fried egg is comfort food at its finest.
At $6 a plate for cooked-to-order Thai, this was honest, tasty value.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Sweet pineapple fried rice and a punchy basil pork with runny egg, a great Thai pairing. Would re-order.
