Seafood hor fun ($8.80) & Prawn roll ($6.80)!
A hawker dinner: seafood wat tan hor in pale egg gravy with prawn, clam and squid, plus a plate of fried prawn rolls. $15.60.
A slightly upgraded hawker dinner with BB: seafood hor fun ($8.80) and a prawn roll ($6.80). π
What we had ($15.60 total):
- Seafood hor fun: flat rice noodles in a pale egg gravy with prawns, clams, squid, fishcake and greens
- Prawn roll: beancurd-skin rolls, deep-fried and sliced
This was the wat tan hor style of seafood hor fun, with the silky pale egg gravy rather than the dark version. The wide hor fun sat in a glossy, savoury sauce streaked with ribbons of egg, generously loaded with plump prawns, clams, rings of squid and slices of fishcake, with greens through it. A more premium plate than the usual, and you could taste it in the seafood.
The prawn rolls were the crispy side, that classic Singapore-Chinese favourite: a savoury filling of minced pork, prawn and water chestnut wrapped in beancurd skin and deep-fried until golden and shatteringly crisp, then sliced for sharing. Lovely dipped in a bit of sweet sauce.
One soft and saucy, one crunchy and moreish, they made a great pairing. It cost a bit more than a basic hawker plate, but the generous seafood and the freshly fried rolls earned it.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. πππΌ Silky egg-gravy hor fun loaded with seafood, plus crispy prawn rolls. Would re-order.
