Tokusen shoyu & Miso tonkotsu ($17.50++ each)!

A ramen night with BB, ordering one of each so we could compare: tokusen shoyu and miso tonkotsu, $17.50++ each. πŸœπŸ˜‹

What we had ($35++, around $41 nett):

Both bowls came loaded, which is exactly what you want from a proper sit-down ramen-ya. The tokusen shoyu (β€œspecially selected” soy) was the deeper, savoury-clean one, a dark amber broth built on soy and dashi, full of umami but not heavy, letting the toppings shine. The miso tonkotsu was the richer, fuller bowl, where creamy pork-bone broth meets fermented miso for a bolder, rounder, slightly sweet depth.

The toppings were the real treat. The chashu was tender and savoury, the ajitama egg had a gorgeous jammy orange yolk that spilled into the soup, the menma (bamboo shoots) added a gentle crunch, and the sweet corn gave little pops of sweetness against the savoury broth. The nori softens into the soup for a toasty seaweed note.

Two satisfying, well-built bowls. Both were excellent, with the miso tonkotsu just edging it for sheer richness.

Overall: 4.7 / 5. πŸ˜‹πŸ‘πŸΌ A clean savoury shoyu and a rich miso tonkotsu, both generously topped with a jammy egg. Would re-visit.
