Tea break after badminton ($18.30)!

Saturday afternoon tea break with BB after the morning’s badminton session — $18.30 cafe spread. The post-exercise sweet stop format.

We ordered (tea break):

Total: $18.30 for the spread.

The post-exercise tea break is one of the small phase-2 routines we’d built around the badminton sessions. After the hour-long court session and the recovery shower, the body wants a small reward that’s not a full meal. The tea break format — a sweet item plus drinks — covers exactly that.

The sweet item was the centre of the order. Probably a cake slice, a pastry, or a small dessert plate. The kind of dessert that’s substantial enough to satisfy but not so heavy that it competes with the next proper meal.

Drinks were the standard cafe options. A specialty coffee for me, a tea (likely something herbal or light) for BB after the badminton workout.

A small savoury item might have rounded out the spread — a sandwich, scone, or quick snack for the protein-and-salt component that the body wants post-exercise.

$18.30 for the spread is fair small-cafe pricing. Half the cost of a full sit-down lunch, twice the value of a single drink stop.

The badminton + tea break combination became one of the regular Saturday morning patterns by October. The exercise gave the morning structure, the tea break gave the recovery a small social ritual.

The cafe was probably the usual neighbourhood spot we’d been frequenting through phase 2. After months of regular visits, we knew the regular menu items and the baristas knew our default orders.

Phase 2 had restored both the exercise venues and the cafe spots, and the combination of the two became one of the small mid-year quality-of-life improvements.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable post-badminton tea break — keeping the routine.
