Yuen Kee is the Guangzhou dumpling chain that caused months of hour-long queues when it opened its first Singapore store at Fortune Centre in 2025. It has since spread to more than twenty outlets, and this one is at #B1-52/52A Chinatown Point, right by Chinatown MRT. Everything arrives in their own green-and-white crockery with the name printed around the rim.
The dumplings are made by hand, and you choose how they come: in one of several soups or tossed in a sauce. Ours came in soup, and that is the one to start with.
The soup was pale and milky, savoury and gentle rather than salty, with a few leaves of greens in it. The dumplings themselves were the highlight: thin, silky skins folded around a generous filling, plump enough that each one is a full mouthful, and they held together in the soup instead of falling apart.
The set adds a plate of broccoli, blanched bright green and topped with fried garlic and a light savoury sauce, which keeps the meal from being all carbs.
The drink was a barley, cold and lightly sweet, in a sealed takeaway cup.
For under twelve dollars in a mall, getting dumplings, vegetables and a drink in one set is good value, and the Chinatown Point outlet is far easier than queueing at Fortune Centre.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Silky handmade dumplings in a gentle soup, with greens and a drink thrown in. Would come back to try them in the chilli oil sauce.
