Mid-week dry yong tau foo at Rong Xing ($0.70 per piece)!
Dry yong tau foo at Rong Xing Yong Tau Fu (Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market) — fried tau pok, beancurd skin, fishballs and a fried meatball, dressed in sweet sauce + chilli, with watercress soup on the side. $0.70 per piece.
Hump-day lunch at Rong Xing Yong Tau Fu (荣兴) over at Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market — one of those proper old-school hawker stalls where you point-and-pick and they keep going till you say stop. 😋
Got it dry, with the works:
- A stuffed tau pok (fluffy fried beancurd pocket filled with fish paste)
- A few pieces of crispy fried beancurd skin
- A fried meatball sitting in a pool of their signature dark sweet sauce
- Some fishballs and stuffed greens nestled between
- A handful of blanched kangkung for the veg
- Yellow noodles + bee hoon underneath, tossed in sweet sauce and chilli
- Their lovely watercress soup on the side — clean, peppery, with strands of kangkung
At $0.70 per piece (min $3.50), this is hawker pricing that hasn’t lost its way.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Ingredients tasted fresh, the sweet sauce is properly thick and that watercress soup made the whole meal feel restorative. Will be back. 😍👍🏼
