Healthier mixed veg rice lunch ($3.50)!
Healthier-option mixed veg rice (cai png) — brown rice with sweet and sour pork, lady's fingers, brinjal and taupok. $3.50.
Tried to eat a bit healthier today — went for the brown rice option at the cai png stall. Still got my sweet and sour pork though 😅. $3.50. 😋
What was on the green plate ($3.50):
- A scoop of brown / red rice mix instead of the usual white. Slightly nutty, more bite, healthier-conscience vibes.
- A pile of sweet and sour pork — crispy battered pork chunks coated in that signature glossy red-orange sauce. (Cheat dish.)
- Sliced lady’s fingers (okra) with bits of chilli — fresh, crunchy, slightly slimy in that good okra way.
- Braised brinjal (eggplant) with taupok — soft, soaking up the savoury gravy with carrot strips.
Brown rice + sweet and sour pork is the classic compromise — feel good about the rice, feel happy about the pork.
Total: $3.50. Hawker cai png pricing.
Overall: 4 / 5. Solid balance — the veg dishes were properly cooked and the pork hit the cravings. Brown rice was on the firmer side but pairs well with saucy dishes. Will keep doing this once a week. 😍👍🏼
