Wanton mee at a hawker stall ($3.50)!
Dry hawker wanton mee — springy mee kia in dark sauce, sliced char siew, blanched choy sum, side bowl of wanton soup. $3.50.
Office-day lunch — straight to a hawker stall for dry wanton mee at $3.50. Classic, fast, reliable. 😋
What was on the plate ($3.50):
- A neat coil of springy mee kia (thin egg noodles) tossed in the signature dark sweet-savoury sauce, pooled at the bottom of the plate.
- Slices of sweet char siew fanned across the top — proper rosy-pink edges, glossy caramelisation.
- A bunch of blanched choy sum stems tucked at the side for the green crunch.
- A side bowl of wanton soup — clear, peppery, with plump wantons and a sprig of greens floating.
Nothing fancy, nothing reinvented — just the dry wanton mee formula done well at hawker pace.
Total: $3.50. Sub-$4 hawker pricing in 2021.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Noodles had proper QQ bounce, char siew was tender, sauce was balanced — not too soya, not too sweet. The wantons were generous for the side. Always a safe weekday lunch pick. 😍👍🏼
