Laksa at a hawker stall ($4.50)!
Hawker laksa — thick rice vermicelli in spicy coconut curry broth with prawns, fishcake, cockles and laksa leaves. $4.50.
Classic comfort lunch — laksa at a hawker stall, $4.50. The bowl that delivers no matter what mood I’m in. 😋
What was in the bowl ($4.50):
- A nest of thick laksa rice vermicelli sitting in a generous pool of orange-red coconut curry broth — properly lemak with the signature dried shrimp / sambal flavour underneath the coconut.
- Two plump prawns (peeled, no heads) for the sweet seafood note.
- Slices of fishcake scattered through.
- A few cockles for the heritage touch.
- A pile of chopped laksa leaves (daun kesum) for that distinctive herbal fragrance.
- A spoon of dark sambal chilli floating on top.
The broth was the centrepiece — properly thick, lemak, with the rempah depth coming through. Slurped through.
Total: $4.50. Hawker pricing for proper laksa.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Laksa leaves were generous, sambal level was right, broth balance was on point. The kind of laksa that makes you want to drink the broth at the end. 😍👍🏼
