Saturday Sichuan dinner at Sichuan Alley!
Numbing chilli fish, sour cabbage fish, sesame mantou and claypot rice at Sichuan Alley (Capitol Singapore). Proper Sichuan-style spice for a Saturday dinner.
Saturday cravings called for mouth-numbing spice, so we headed down to Sichuan Alley at Capitol Singapore (B1, 13 Stamford Road) for the real deal. πΆοΈπ
What we ordered:
- Sichuan chilli fish (ιΊ»θΎ£ι±Ό) β a whole fish swimming in a sea of dried red chillies, peppercorns and scallions. The kind of dish that numbs your lips and you keep going back to anyway.
- Sour vegetable fish (ι Έθι±Ό) β fillets in a tangy pickled mustard green broth with green chillies on top. Cooling counterpoint to the chilli fish.
- Sesame golden mantou β crispy buns dusted with sesame, perfect for dunking into the fish sauces. Stop yourself from eating just these.
- Claypot mixed grain rice β a heaping pot of clay-baked rice with toppings, the bottom slightly crusted like proper guoba. Comforting carb anchor.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. Loud, oily, sweaty, exactly what Sichuan dinner should feel like. We left fully numbed and very happy. πππΌ
