Hokkien fried dai loke mee & Moonlight horfun from Ipoh Tuck Kee Son!
Saucy Hokkien fried dai loke mee and a glistening Ipoh-style moonlight horfun, takeaway from Ipoh Tuck Kee Son (Jalan Besar). $13.50 for two plates.
Mid-week takeaway night, and we couldn’t decide between fried noodles or hor fun — so we got both. From Ipoh Tuck Kee Son (德记仔) at their Jalan Besar stall — the legit OG affiliate of the Restoran Tuck Kee in Ipoh that nails both. 😋
- Hokkien fried dai loke mee — $5. Thick yellow noodles wok-fried till they soaked up all that dark sweet sauce, tossed with prawns, sliced pork, sotong rings and crunchy greens. Smoky wok hei right through the bag. So shiok.
- Moonlight horfun — $8.50. Ipoh-style smooth horfun under a slick of dark gravy, with a glistening raw egg yolk plopped right in the middle (the “moonlight”). You break the yolk, stir, and the whole plate becomes silky and rich. Slices of pork and fish cake throughout. 🍳🌙
Total: $13.50. Two-dish dinner under fifteen bucks, hard to complain.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Wok hei intact even after the takeaway ride home — that’s the real test. Definitely on the rotation now. 😍👍🏼
